ABSTRACT

Abstract This work analyzed the pharmacotherapeutic problems identified by the clinical pharmacist in an intensive care unit (ICU) and the acceptance of pharmaceutical interventions in solving these problems. This is a descriptive cross-sectional retrospective study, carried out in the adult ICU of a public hospital. All patients hospitalized during the study period had their pharmacotherapy monitored and those whose stay at the ICU lasted less than 24 hours were excluded. The pharmacotherapeutic problems were classified according to type, cause, acceptability/implementation, mode of intervention, outcome and related pharmacotherapeutic group. 302 patients were followed up and 350 pharmacotherapeutic problems were identified. Most of them were classified as unnecessary drug-treatment (n=186; 53.1%). The most frequent causes were excessive drug administration (n=181; 97.3%), and antimicrobials was the main group of drugs associated to that type of problem. 350 pharmaceutical interventions were performed, highlighting "prescriber informed only" (n=178; 50.9%), with an average acceptability of 90.7%, with those carried out on site being more effective (93.4%). The number of pharmacotherapeutic problems that were totally solved was 282 (80.6%). Clinical pharmacy activities in the ICU identified, prevented and corrected pharmacotherapeutic problems, contributing to the optimization of pharmacotherapy in aspects related to the need, efficacy and safety of treatments.

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT

The emergence of physicians' roles in key administrative positions within many King Saudi Arabia health care organizations has represented a major change in the medical profession over the last two decades. This have created a need for physicians who are willing to assume a high level of responsibility for managing evolving health care organizations. The study explores the perception of physician managers regarding their work, personal and managerial characteristics. The data for this study were obtained from a sample of 200 physicians working in management positions in different health care organizations in Riyadh. Physicians were selected at random with probability proportional to size from a list containing managers in all health care organization to participate in the study. Our results indicated that physician managers lack administration skills. No formal training in medical administration and management because management principles are not integrated in the medical context and the majority were experienced in management for less than four years. Very few possess the technical competencies such as strategic planning, financial and economics knowledge. Boredom with medical practice, improvement of personal position and encouragement from others are related to being older, having more years in medicine and interest in medicine is reduced. The finding also supported the notion that physician manager can maintain stable levels of loyality to professional interest and organization. This dual commitment is related to work-related characteristics involving sharing his time favorably to management job and to patient care. To improve their management skills physicians can benefit from management education programs such as those offered by King Saud University

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT

The North-West coast, NWC, of Egypt represents one of the longest coasts in the country; which extends from Alexandria in the east for 520 km to El-Salloum on the Libyan border to the west. The development plans have been lunched into the zone which is concerned with industrial, agricultural, mining, touristic, and environmental activities. The current study is concerned with studying the management of the different proposed development sectors in the coastal zones. A Strategic environmental assessment model, SEA, has been designed to formtulate the correlation between the scoped factors of the study based on weighing forces of each on the other and on the whole process. The studied NWCZ has a fragile nature as a dryland and it is exposed to the deforestation phenomenon which may affect all the proposed future development plans. So, The agricultural and environmental proposed projects for the studied zone were found as the most positive projects for the area where they recorded 13 and 50 as numerical values; respectively. While; the industrial, mining, and touristic proposed activities, have recorded-38, -40, and-5, respectively
